Cookie Policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026
This policy explains how Shopi uses cookies and similar technologies (like local storage and session storage) in your browser.
Shopi uses essential browser storage and analytics. Google Tag Manager loads the tags configured for the site; Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel may use cookies or similar identifiers when enabled. Tag Manager itself manages tags, while each active tag determines what data it collects and whether it stores cookies.
Google Tag Manager, and with it Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel, loads only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, they don't load. Essential storage and Vercel Analytics, which doesn't use cookies, work either way.
1. What We Use, and Why
Essential cookies
shopi-auth-hint— a small cookie we set when you're signed in. It doesn't contain your password or session token — it's a flag our system uses to decide whether to show you signed-in or signed-out pages. It lasts up to one year or until you sign out.
Local storage
We use your browser's local storage (not a cookie, but a similar browser technology) to:
- Keep you signed in— we store your session information locally so you don't have to log in every time you open Shopi
- Remember your theme preference— whether you're using light or dark mode
Session storage
We use session storage, which clears automatically when you close your browser tab, to:
- Restore your scroll position when you navigate back to a feed
- Temporarily remember where to send you after you sign in (for example, if you tried to message a seller before logging in)
- Remember if you've dismissed certain in-app prompts during your visit
2. Storage Details
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expiry |

Auth-intent redirect (session storage) | Session storage — essential | Temporarily remembers where to send you after signing in (e.g. back to a seller's chat). | Until tab is closed |
Scroll position (session storage) | Session storage — functional | Restores your scroll position when navigating back to a feed. | Until tab is closed |
shopi-session-id | Session storage — analytics | A random identifier used with technical session details when you are signed in. | Until tab is closed |
shopi-session-analytics-sent:* | Session storage — analytics | Records that technical session details have already been sent for this signed-in session, to avoid sending them repeatedly. | Until tab is closed |
shopi:seller-analytics:session | Session storage — analytics | A random session identifier used to measure seller and listing interactions without putting your account ID in those events. | Until tab is closed |
Google Analytics cookies (for example, _ga) | First-party cookie — analytics, when enabled | Helps Google Analytics distinguish browsers and visits and report website usage. | Set by the Google Analytics tag configuration; may persist across visits |
Other analytics or advertising identifiers | Cookie or similar storage — third-party tags, if enabled | Tags configured in Google Tag Manager or the Meta Pixel may use identifiers to measure visits, interactions, or ad performance. | Set by the provider and tag configuration |
3. Analytics and Advertising Tags
Shopi measures website and product usage, including page views, homepage button clicks, seller and listing interactions, and steps in creating and publishing a post. Events can include the clicked button's placement, post category, media type, referral source, and whether a publish succeeded. Analytics event payloads do not include listing text, phone numbers, message text, or uploaded photos and videos.
Vercel Analytics measures website usage. The app sends interaction events to Google Tag Manager's data layer; Google Analytics receives page views or those events only when the corresponding tags are configured and published in the container. If the Meta Pixel is enabled, it receives page views, account registrations, and successful post publication events. The container may be configured to load other tags; those providers may use their own cookies or identifiers and privacy terms.
4. Push Notifications
If you opt in to push notifications, your browser stores a subscription on your device that lets us send you alerts (like new messages). This isn't a cookie, but it's a similar browser-level permission. You can turn this off any time in your browser or device notification settings.
5. Managing Local Storage and Cookies
You can change your analytics cookie choice at any time: . The same link is in the site footer.
You can block or clear cookies and browser storage in your browser settings. This may sign you out, reset preferences, or reduce analytics accuracy. Blocking cookies does not necessarily stop a tag from sending event data, so use the privacy controls offered by the relevant analytics or advertising provider as well.
6. Changes to This Policy
If the cookies and storage technologies we use change, we'll update this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.
